I completely disagree. I think that is a very narrow-minded way of thinking. Some people are not in a good situation and DO, indeed, need a helping hand to come see you. To say that because someone cannot afford to travel that they are undeserving of even the slightest bit of consideration is ridiculous and you should be ashamed of saying so.

Scammers are more people who are playing a game or bullshitting people, as opposed to the people you have mentioned who just want nothing to do with you, however rude their ignorance may be. Their idea of socially acceptable behaviour and/or responses to a message online really don't reflect their upbringing, per se. In saying so, one cannot really be put at fault for one's upbringing, we don't really have much of a choice in our parents.
